My Portal Alerts

We have our alerts being sent to generic notification groups, as in, most notification groups only contain generic users (e.g. generic-systems, generic-networks) which have email addresses for those groups shared mailbox… This means a shared approach to receiving and acting on alerts, rather than the emails being sent individually to each user. In fact the only notification groups that contain the real users are the NG's we use for SMSing alerts. Once again we don't SMS everything so have quite a targetted notification group for that.

This has the counter effect of making everybodies “My Portal Screen” alerts section blank, except only do SMSable alerts end up there.

So it's working as intended here, but was wondering on what the recommendation is. Should the users be also in the notification groups, but just set their email alerts to “never”?
