Split Monitoring Time Periods

by May 2, 2007

We have a process here that runs twice a day at separate intervals. Instead of setting the monitor to run 24×7 it would be awesome to be able to add a second monitoring period to a custom monitor so it could be run at a time later in the day but not 24×7. This way we could allocate say 8:00-12:00 and 20:00-23:59.

Sometimes an evening process could finish before midnight where other times when there was more data to process it can finish closer to 01:00. It is hard when the monitoring period ends at 23:59.

This would also be helpful when our morning shift has cleared the actual errors on the servers from the night before. Therefore the Global Scan screen gets a chance to display green as the monitor has run again at a different time than the original monitor's time when the error occured and it can clear the alarm once the underlying condition that first triggered the alarm has been resolved. I am afraid of running too much stuff 24×7 due to false alarms as some hours there is automated system maintenence and also concerns over the load on the server. We are well over 600 custom monitors now so would have some concern to be running a lot of these 24×7.

I am not sure if this could be possible but it would be a feature that we would use on the majority of our checks we have in place.

cheers,
Greg
