I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work with, or on, SQL Diagnostic Manager for nearly 10 years – but I know some users have been using it for even longer! How long have you been using DM?

ParticipantOriginally purchased sometime in the late 90’s when it was developed by NetIQ. We’ve been using it everyday since.

ParticipantActually, DM was not developed by NetIQ…it was a small company (out of South Africa iirc) called Subquery Innovations, and it was called SQLProbe. I found it in 2001, and loved it for all its bugs. My company’s server manager kept trying to convince me that NetIQ had a better SQL Server monitoring solution, which I had rejected…he brought in some NetIQ engineers and managers to try and convince me further, and I introduced them to SQLProbe, thinking it would shut them up. They had never heard of it but agreed it was better than their solution, at least out of the box.
Within a few months (in 2002), NetIQ had purchased SQL Probe, stuck their name in the title bar and raised the price by something like 600 percent. Not sure if I was the cause of this for certain, but the timing sure was suspect. I was not pleased.
When Idera took over they made the product VERY good…actually made a SQL backend for the repository, added a bunch of useful features, fixed the bugs, etc.
I have been a staunch supporter of the company and the product (as well as a few other of their programs) since.
